Andal (8th–9th century) was a celebrated Tamil poet-saint and the only female among the 12 Alvar saints of South India. Found under a Tulsi plant in Srivilliputhur by Periyalvar, she displayed immense devotion to Vishnu, famously wearing garlands meant for him before offering them. She famously married Lord Ranganatha at Srirangam, merging with him.
