Ayyappan also known as Hariharaputra or Manikandan, is a Hindu deity representing the union of Shiva (Hara) and Vishnu in his Mohini avatar (Hari). Raised by the Pandalam king, he is believed to be an incarnation born to defeat the demoness Mahishi. He is worshipped as a celibate yogi (Brahmachari) at the Sabarimala temple.
